Auto Accident Insurance Recovery

Florida Insurance Dispute Attorneys

If you or a loved one has been involved in a motor vehicle accident, you should know that there are many potential sources for financial recovery. However, without an experienced lawyer advocating for your rights, the insurance company may attempt to take advantage of you and offer far less compensation than you deserve. Speak with the insurance dispute attorneys at KO before accepting any settlement or making any statements.

Helping You Understand Your Auto Insurance Policy

Contact our Fort Lauderdale law firm to discuss your insurance claim with an experienced injury lawyer in South Florida.

Our insurance dispute attorneys help injured clients and their families clearly understand all forms of insurance compensation that are available. Many policies cover other family members within the same household in addition to the policy holder. A policy may also compensate the policy holder when he or she is injured as a passenger in another individual's vehicle.

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP): PIP coverage is required for most motor vehicles in Florida (motorcyclists are not required to carry PIP coverage). PIP coverage allots a minimum of $10,000 for medical expenses or other injury expenses for injured individuals, regardless of fault.
  • Bodily Injury Liability (BIL) Insurance: The at-fault driver's bodily injury insurance provides compensation (up to policy limits) to others who sustained serious or permanent injuries in the motor vehicle accident. Additionally, this policy pays for the legal defense of at-fault drivers.
  • Property Damage Liability Insurance (PDL): PDL coverage is required in Florida. PDL coverage allots a minimum of $10,000 for any property damage that is caused by the at-fault driver in a motor vehicle accident.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM): Individuals hit by an uninsured driver may seek compensation under their own uninsured motorist (UM) policy. If medical expenses or lost wages exceed the policy limits of the at-fault driver, injured individuals may seek supplemental compensation from their own underinsured motorist (UIM) policy.
  • Medical Payments Coverage: In nearly every serious accident, the personal injury protection coverage will be exhausted almost immediately. Therefore, many drivers choose to supplement this insurance with additional insurance for medical bills, lost wages, and other personal injury compensation.
  • Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: Comprehensive coverage (also known as collision coverage or all-risks policies) provides compensation for damages to the individual's own vehicle resulting from an auto accident.
  • Umbrella insurance: Umbrella insurance may provide excess liability coverage, excess bodily injury coverage, excess UM/UIM coverage, or other excess insurance coverage. Coverage will vary depending on the specifics of each individual policy.
