ReNu Contact Lens Solution Linked to Fusarium KeratitisFederal regulators revealed on 10 April 2006 that they were investigating links between ReNu contact lens solution and a rare fungal infection (Fusarium Keratitis) known to cause blindness. At last count, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) said about two-thirds of 122 confirmed cases of the infection in the United States involved lens wearers who reported using ReNu contact lens solution with MoistureLoc. Preliminary data from the CDC show that a high proportion of cases reported using a Bausch & Lomb ReNu contact lens solution. On 13 April 2006, Bausch & Lomb announced that it was withdrawing all ReNu contact lens solution with MoistureLoc products and is recommending that consumers stop using ReNu contact lens solution immediately.
